Every year the Esri User Conference hosts thousands of attendees and shares the latest developments in GIS technology. A large number of promotional items are created for the Esri Store at the conference venue. For UC 2019, I was commissioned to create a custom designed set of playing cards to be sold at the event. I illustrated all 52 cards including custom symbols as well as the box. The challenge was to include elements that were referential of GIS concepts. I included common themes like marker pins, data layers, topographic lines, points, and polygons—all of which are related to mapping and GIS. The final solution marries classic playing card illustration styles with simple GIS concepts.
